Michael Brown is proud to announce that he was selected as one of the 2012 Attorneys of the Year by California Lawyer magazine. According to the magazine's editors, the California Lawyer Attorney of the Year ("CLAY") Award recognizes a small number of attorneys accross the state "whose achievements have made a profound impact on the law."

Mr. Brown, working with his co-counsel Ernest Galvan of Rosen Bien & Galvan LLP, won a unanimous decision from the California Supreme Court in November 2011 in favor of retired employees of Orange County, California. The Court held that public entity employers may enter into implied-in-fact agreements with their employees that prevent the employers from eliminating retirement benefits from those employees after they retire. The decision effectively reversed a prior ruling from the United States District Court, that implied-in-fact contracts relating to public employee compensation are per se forbidden under California Law.
